SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: North East England (Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham, Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and surrounding areas)

Contract: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available

Start Date: Ongoing Opportunities Throughout the Academic Year

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

We are regularly recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils across primary, secondary and specialist SEND schools throughout the North East.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children who require additional support to access education. This may include providing 1:1 support, working with small groups, implementing EHCP targets, supporting emotional regulation, and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.

No two days are the same, making this a rewarding opportunity for individuals who enjoy building positive relationships and helping children achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Follow Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support plans.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, learning difficulties, and other additional needs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement within the classroom.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Support safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion across the school environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.
  • Be patient, resilient, and understanding.
  • Have a passion for supporting children with SEND.
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships.
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and school policies.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of pupils.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Trauma-Informed Practice
