Schools Mutual Services is recruiting dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to work in a number of welcoming schools across Newcastle from September 2027.

These are long-term, full-time opportunities, supporting children on a 1:1 basis and helping them to succeed both academically and personally.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with individual pupils who require additional support throughout the school day.

You’ll be supporting children with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Behavioural needs

Working alongside class teachers and SEND teams, you’ll help pupils access learning, build confidence, develop social skills and achieve positive outcomes in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Every child is different, making this a rewarding role where your patience, creativity and encouragement can make a genuine difference.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Has experience working with Autism, ADHD or behavioural needs.
  • Is patient, calm and compassionate.
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • Is confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis.
  • Works well as part of a wider school team.
  • Is committed to helping every child achieve their potential.

Experience in schools, alternative provisions, care settings, youth work or support work is highly desirable.

What We Offer

  • Full-time, long-term opportunities.
  • September 2027 start.
  • Competitive daily pay based on experience.
  • Weekly PAYE pay.
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
  • Access to CPD and professional development opportunities.
  • Health and wellbeing support.
  • Pension scheme.
