SEN Teaching Assistant (KS2 Focus) – 2 Positions Available
Location: Bishop Auckland
Hours: 08:30 – 15:30 (Full-Time)
Pay: £95–£100 per day
Duration: 20th April – End of Summer Term

About the Roles

We are seeking two dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to support pupils within Key Stage 2, with a strong focus on Special Educational Needs (SEN). These roles are based in a supportive school environment in Bishop Auckland and are ideal for individuals with a passion for making a difference in children’s lives.

SEN Teaching Assistant (2:1 Support – KS2 SEN & General Classroom Support)

  • Provide 2:1 support for pupils with SEN, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Assist with both SEN-specific needs and general classroom activities
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively
  • Use de-escalation techniques and nurturing approaches to support pupils’ emotional regulation
  • Work closely with teaching staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment

SEN Teaching Assistant (KS2 AM / Nursery PM)

  • Provide SEN support within a KS2 classroom during the morning
  • Support pupils within a Nursery setting in the afternoon
  • Adapt to the needs of different age groups and learning environments
  • Assist with both academic and pastoral support across settings

Key Requirements (Both Roles)

  • Experience working with children with SEN is essential
  • Understanding of EHCPs and how to support pupils in line with these plans
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Experience in de-escalation techniques and nurturing approaches
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Flexible, patient, and proactive attitude

Ideal Backgrounds

Candidates with experience in the following settings are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • Children’s residential care
  • Children’s nursing
  • Primary schools
  • SEN schools or specialist provisions

Male role models would be highly beneficial for the pupils in these roles; however, this is not essential.
