  • North East
  • Full time
  • £106-112.02 per day
  • Primary Education, SEND Education

Make a Real Difference Every Day

Are you a kind, patient and compassionate Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can truly make an impact?

Schools Mutual Services is recruiting a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 pupil at a welcoming primary school in Houghton-le-Spring. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and helping children reach their full potential.

You’ll become a trusted and consistent presence in the child’s school day, providing the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.

About the Role

You will work on a 1:1 basis with a KS1 child who is non-verbal and requires personal care support throughout the school day.

This role is not behaviour-focused. Instead, we’re looking for someone who can offer patience, understanding and reassurance while developing a positive and trusting relationship with the child.

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment where the child feels supported every day.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • Is confident providing personal care or is willing to do so.
  • Is calm, caring and naturally patient.
  • Can build positive relationships with children, families and school staff.
  • Is reliable, committed and enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Has excellent communication and a compassionate approach.

Experience within schools, SEND settings, care environments or support work would all be highly beneficial.

What We Offer

  • Competitive daily pay of £106.00 – £112.02.
  • Full-time hours, Monday to Friday.
  • September start.
  • Opportunity for the role to continue beyond the initial term.
  • Friendly, ongoing support from your dedicated Schools Mutual Services consultant.
  • Weekly PAYE pay.
  • Access to CPD and professional development opportunities.
  • Enhanced health and wellbeing support.
  • Pension scheme.
