SEND Support Assistant (Part-Time)

We are seeking a caring, energetic, and dedicated SEND Support Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Stanhope. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support for a Key Stage 1 pupil, helping them engage with learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships through creative and outdoor-based activities.
The successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time outdoors, delivering engaging learning experiences that promote wellbeing, independence, and enjoyment. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being active, creative, and making a meaningful difference to a child’s school experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with SEND.
- Plan and deliver outdoor learning activities that support educational and personal development.
- Support emotional regulation and wellbeing through positive interactions and structured activities.
- Encourage engagement through sports, physical activities, creative tasks, and child-led interests.
- Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil to encourage confidence and independence.
- Work closely with teaching staff and the SEND team to implement individual support strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour and help the child remain engaged throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience supporting children with SEND, either in a school or similar setting.
- Enjoy working outdoors and delivering active, practical learning opportunities.
- Be patient, resilient, and able to adapt activities to suit the needs of the child.
- Have a creative and engaging approach to supporting learning and development.
- Be confident supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Be able to build positive relationships and provide consistent support.
- Hold a full driving licence and have access to their own transport due to the location of the school.
