The Role
We are looking for an experienced Upper Key Stage 2 Primary Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Bishop Auckland.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and capable teacher who has previous experience teaching within Years 5 and/or 6 and understands the expectations and challenges of Upper Key Stage 2.
The successful teacher will take responsibility for delivering engaging, well-structured lessons that challenge pupils, support their individual needs and help them make strong progress across the curriculum.
You’ll be joining a supportive school environment where high standards are encouraged and staff work collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils.
What We’re Looking For
We’re particularly interested in hearing from experienced teachers who:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Have proven experience teaching within Key Stage 2, ideally Years 5 or 6
- Have a strong understanding of the KS2 National Curriculum
- Are confident planning, delivering and assessing lessons across the primary curriculum
- Understand the expectations around pupil progress and attainment in Upper KS2
- Can adapt teaching to meet a range of abilities and additional needs
- Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
- Are committed to creating an inclusive, engaging and positive learning environment
Experience preparing pupils for Year 6 SATs would be particularly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
As an Upper KS2 Teacher, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering high-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum
- Creating engaging learning opportunities that motivate and challenge pupils
- Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress
- Using assessment effectively to inform future teaching
- Differentiating learning to support pupils with varying abilities and needs
- Maintaining high expectations for behaviour, achievement and engagement
- Supporting pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary education
- Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, teachers and senior leaders
- Communicating effectively with parents and carers
- Contributing positively to the wider life of the school
About You
You’ll be an experienced primary teacher who is comfortable taking ownership of an Upper KS2 classroom from day one.
You’ll understand how to balance academic expectations with creating a classroom where children feel supported, motivated and confident in their learning.
Strong curriculum knowledge, effective behaviour management and the ability to build positive relationships will be essential.
