SEND Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

Location: Consett
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Consett. This is a full-time position supporting children across Years 3 to 6, working within both a nurture provision and small group classroom environments.

This is a rewarding role for an individual who understands that no two days are the same. The successful candidate will be adaptable and flexible, able to respond to changing needs and situations, while also being confident in following established routines and structures that support individual children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Years 3-6.
  • Work within a nurture provision and small class settings to promote engagement, wellbeing, and learning.
  • Assist children with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and self-management strategies.
  • Facilitate movement breaks and sensory activities throughout the school day.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, helping them to feel safe, supported, and valued.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement support strategies and individual learning plans.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEND, either in a school or similar setting.
  • Be patient, understanding, and resilient when supporting children with a range of needs.
  • Be adaptable and comfortable working in environments where each day may present different challenges and opportunities.
  • Understand the importance of routines and consistency in supporting children’s emotional and educational development.
  • Have knowledge of sensory regulation, nurture approaches, and strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Be a positive team player with excellent communication skills.
