About the Role
A welcoming and supportive primary school in Durham is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced Year 4 Class Teacher to join their team from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to take full responsibility for a Year 4 class and make a significant impact on pupils’ academic progress and personal development. The role is initially for half a term, with the possibility of extension and future opportunities within the school.
The Class
The successful candidate will teach a class of 30 pupils, including:
- Pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) – one pupil with an EHCP is supported by a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant.
- SEND needs
- Pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- A cohort requiring targeted support to raise attainment, particularly in writing
The class teacher will retain overall responsibility for planning, monitoring progress and adapting provision to ensure all pupils access a personalised and ambitious curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Full class teaching responsibilities for a Year 4 class
- Planning, preparation and assessment in line with school expectations
- Delivering high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the needs of all learners
- Supporting pupils with SEND and adapting learning appropriately
- Working collaboratively with support staff, including a 1:1 Teaching Assistant
- Conducting initial assessments and monitoring pupil progress
- Attending weekly staff meetings (Wednesdays, 3:30pm–4:30pm)
- Participating in parent consultations/evenings where required
- Contributing positively to the wider life of the school
Protected Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time will be provided.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven experience teaching Key Stage 2 pupils
- Strong experience supporting pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs
- Experience adapting learning and delivering bespoke curriculum provision where required
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Experience working with pupils who have English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- A strong understanding of assessment and pupil progress
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
- High expectations for behaviour, achievement and inclusion
