JOB OVERVIEW

Location: Oxford
Start date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time or part-time, long-term on-call supply
Daily rate: Approximately £110–£130, depending on experience and responsibilities

Schools Mutual Services is seeking confident, adaptable and dependable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools in Oxford.

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys working with young people and can confidently supervise a classroom while helping students complete work set by their usual teacher. You may be called on to cover a range of subjects and year groups, so flexibility and a calm, professional approach are important.

If you have experience in PE, English, Mathematics, Science or another subject area, we would love to hear from you. Your subject knowledge can be a real asset when supporting students and explaining the work set.

Work will normally be prepared by the class teacher or subject department, so lesson planning and marking are not usually required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students or young people.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour-management skills.
  • Confidence supervising classes across different subject areas.
  • Clear communication skills and a professional approach.
  • The ability to follow lesson instructions and school procedures.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing cover requirements.
  • Reliability and a commitment to supporting the school community.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and improving outcomes for young people.

A teaching qualification is not essential. Applications are welcomed from experienced Cover Supervisors, teaching assistants, graduates, sports coaches, youth workers and candidates with relevant transferable experience.

Essential compliance requirements

To work through Schools Mutual Services, you must:

  • Provide details of two suitable referees whom we can contact.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or be prepared to obtain one.
  • Provide evidence of your right to work in the UK.
  • Submit a complete and up-to-date CV, clearly explaining any gaps longer than three months.
  • Complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks.

Why work with Schools Mutual Services?

Schools Mutual Services is the UK’s only not-for-profit supply agency owned by schools, for schools. Our focus is on supporting education rather than generating returns for shareholders.

When you join us, you can expect:

  • A competitive daily rate of approximately £110–£130.
  • Full-time or part-time working options.
  • Opportunities to provide cover in Oxford secondary schools.
  • PAYE employment with no umbrella company deductions.
  • Support from our experienced education recruitment team.
  • A transparent, ethical and personal service.
