Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Birmingham

£110–£140 per day | Full-time & Part-time | September 2026 Start | Weekly PAYE Pay

Schools Mutual Services is recruiting Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support primary schools across Birmingham from September 2026.

As an HLTA, you’ll play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across EYFS, KS1 and KS2. You’ll deliver interventions, provide whole-class cover when required and work alongside teachers to help pupils achieve their full potential.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes
  • Provide PPA and short-term class cover when required
  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
  • Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy and phonics
  • Support pupils with SEND, EHCPs and additional learning needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and an inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and school leaders
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback where appropriate
  • Help pupils build confidence, independence and resilience
  • Maintain high safeguarding and professional standards

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for enthusiastic and experienced education professionals who have:

  • HLTA status or equivalent classroom experience
  • Experience working within a primary school
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Confidence leading whole-class learning
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A flexible, proactive and positive attitude
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare

Experience supporting SEND pupils, delivering interventions or working across multiple key stages would be beneficial.
