Schools Mutual Services is recruiting Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support primary schools across Birmingham from September 2026.

As an HLTA, you’ll play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across EYFS, KS1 and KS2. You’ll deliver interventions, provide whole-class cover when required and work alongside teachers to help pupils achieve their full potential.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes
- Provide PPA and short-term class cover when required
- Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
- Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy and phonics
- Support pupils with SEND, EHCPs and additional learning needs
- Promote positive behaviour and an inclusive learning environment
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and school leaders
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback where appropriate
- Help pupils build confidence, independence and resilience
- Maintain high safeguarding and professional standards
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for enthusiastic and experienced education professionals who have:
- HLTA status or equivalent classroom experience
- Experience working within a primary school
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Confidence leading whole-class learning
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A flexible, proactive and positive attitude
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare
Experience supporting SEND pupils, delivering interventions or working across multiple key stages would be beneficial.
